WEDDING DAY

Cynthia Simpson

The day of the wedding has arrived! Though it was hot and sticky, not a drop of rain was in site and I had the best time of my life.  Having your family and closest friends all in one place to celebrate YOU is kind of a big deal. Not to mention, the months and months of planning what you only imagined your whole life actually come together is kind of extraordinary.

The details of the day are what mattered most to me. The time does goes fast, but if you have someone keeping track of when and where you need to be, you can really enjoy getting ready with your bridal party. Thank goodness for my beautiful, organized and taskmaster of a sister. Yay Andrea!

Here are a few special moments that made my day complete and made me smile.

My crown of flowers, made by The Bloom Bar, were made of fresh baby's breath sprinkled with golden flecks. I really loved how light and delicate it looked in my curly locks but it was really durable as well.

Celebrity makeup artist and close friend, Lynette Broom, made, my mother, sister and I look like movie stars. She's the best at what she does. It was such an honor to have her there for my wedding. She is so talented and made me feel really beautiful. Best part was, no matter how hot it was outside, my makeup did not move all day!

My bridesmaids were such huge supporters throughout my relationship with Valery and I wanted to give them something special to wear for the day (and the rest of their lives). These beautiful handmade pendents By Boe were the perfect gift. The pendants and chains are 14K gold, light and delicate. When each of my bridesmaids opened their personal gift, they squealed with delight and even cried.

My bouquet was magnificent! Willow & Thistle really made my vision come to life. They even allowed my mother to contribute flowers from her garden which made the bouquet much more special.

My amazing gown was made by Andrea Pitter, Owner and Designer of Pantora Bridal boutique in Brooklyn, NY. She is so talented and gifted. The dress fit like a glove and was so whimsical and light. I felt like Cinderella, minus the mice.

We had such am amazing day and I am so excited for what life has in store. It's a day that we won't forget. Thank you everyone who made this day so special! Love you!

BE STRESS FREE WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING

Cynthia Simpson

I'm only 3 months away from my wedding day and you would think I would be pulling my curls out, but guess what, I'm not stressed! Do you want to feel as great as I do when the countdown to your big day gets closer? Here are some tips that have helped me enjoy the process of planning a wedding!

PICKING YOUR VENUE

When picking your venue you have to decide what's best for you, your wallet and what amenities you require. If you're not getting married in a church, temple or cathedral,  you can find places that will offer a space to have your ceremony as well as your reception. They may also have vendors for you to choose from that can work with you to plan what you need in the space provided. We picked a place that had everything on site, including a hotel, catering and restaurant.  A one stop shop! If you're invited to the wedding then you're invited to the reception. If our guests get too tipsy, not to worry, they can just reserve a room right upstairs for the night. Plus, there was no way I was going to be running around from one spot to another. Not in my dress!  Where you decide to get married will reflect your attire and overall feel of your wedding. Remember, the ceremony is a demonstration of your love for one another and we love convenience.

WHO SHOULD MAKE THE LIST

If your parents have a few people they want to invite to your wedding, then by all means let them, but remember this is YOUR wedding and you want to have a good time! Making your list can be tricky. It can get really big, really fast and that can get costly (which I learned). I found a easy way to figure out who should make the cut by asking myself these questions: Would you or have you called them and invited them to dinner? Does this person mean a lot to you? Would it really make a difference to YOU if they're not at your wedding?  If the answer is yes to all 3 questions, then they should be on the list. If not, believe me they will survive and so will you.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP

Having someone else, besides your honey, to share the responsibilities is ideal. You both will be super busy and let's face it, all this planning can be overwhelming. Don't sit there and get mad at him if he doesn't want to go over every detail with you. If he is smart, he will just let you have your way :) More importantly, you need someone else to bounce ideas off of. My twin sister, Andrea, and my mom are helping me plan everything out for the wedding. They have been keeping me on track and certain details in order.  If you don't have a family member that is organized and cray- cray like you, get a friend or a wedding planner that can help you manage all the specifics.

PICKING THE PERFECT DRESS

Picking out your dress is so exciting but can also be a huge headache!  You have to keep in mind the amount you want to spend and stick to it. You also have dreadful thoughts of your dress not fitting when it's time to walk down the aisle. I would suggest NOT trying on any dress you can't afford because that dress will be the one you fall in love with. However, there is a way you can get the look you want and still not break your bank! If you do find a dress that's too pricey, try it on at that fancy boutique and then look for it online for less. There is a site called Borrowing Magnolia where they let you borrow or buy designer wedding gowns at a decent price. You can try them on in the comforts of your own home without all the pressure to purchase. I looked at Klenfeld Bridal  BHLDN, Anthropologie's wedding collection and a boutique in Brooklyn called Pantora Bridal. I decided to get my dressed custom made from Pantora Bridal. It will be exactly what I want and it's actually in my price range. The best part is since my dress will be custom made I don't have to worry about fitting into my dress because it's made to fit my body perfectly.  I have a fitting coming up, so I will let you know how it goes!

Happy planning!
