weekend with Everlane

Everlane had a pop-up shop this weekend at The William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn New York. I had to take advantage of the amazing deals that they had to offer! Rows of shoes and racks of clothes to try on... what's better than that?!

100% Human shirts were sold for $1 dollar each. They are so soft comfortable and has a great message behind it. We are all human, and we should be treated as such. With the climate that we are in today, people need to be reminded that we all need love, we all need support and we deserve to be protected no matter the color of our skin or the status of our citicenship. We are all HUMAN!

I wound up getting the oxfords in black but had to get them stretched. They were tight even though I got them a half a size bigger (I wear a size 10). Now, they fit perfectly and are a great classic look for the summer or fall. My friends came along for the sale and got a few things as well.

Thank you Everlane, I'm excited for your next po-pup!

Pillow Talk: Handcrafted and made with you in mind

Cynthia Simpson

As some of you may know, my dad is from Ghana and has a vacation home there. My sister and I take trips to West Africa every year to see our extended family and friends. This last visit I brought back some beautiful mud cloth and other fabrics that I thought would be a great addition to our new apartment in Brooklyn.

Instead of using the fabric as a throw or blanket that I would eventually fold up and tuck away, I wanted to find a way to utilize the fabric and have it on display. I teamed up with mother Delphine and Aunt Milady, who are both amazing quilt makers. Together, we have designed an Exclusive line of pillow shams that show off the material while also giving any room a quick and easy facelift!

For a limited time only, you can purchase any pillow sham with the option to choose your own fabric! Besides the two pillows shams above, here are a few of my favorite fabric swatches that you can choose from. To view all the swatches please visit MiladyCreates.com

I will soon be hosting a pop-up shop selling our pillow shams and a collection of vintage jewelry. More information is soon to come!

Let's do the most this year

Cynthia Simpson

With 2017 in full swing, things seem to been more challenging than years past. There is an air of uncertainty with where the future is headed and how to navigate through the fog. At times like this, I try and take a moment to reflect on what's going on in my life.

Rather than worrying about things I have absolutely no control over, I try to make the most out of what is in front of me and what I can control. As a naturally optimistic person that dreams big, I know that we as human beings can overcome anything we put our minds to. We just have to take it day by day and live each day to the fullest.
If you are tired of where you are working and want to change careers, NOW is the time to do it. If you want to live a healthier life, NOW is the time to skip the morning donut and take that evening spin class.

Let's put action behind our wants and dreams to make it our reality. Start by making a list of what you want to accomplish and work each day to get closer to your goal. Speak out loud what you want to achieve and perhaps your friends will provide a helping hand.

Regardless of how rocky this year has begun, I still look towards the future with high aspirations. I plan to do everything I can to achieve my goals, be happy and love ferociously.
I am doing the absolute most this year and so should you!
xx

Fun things to do during a Snowstorm

Cynthia Simpson

When winter arrives, so does the snow and at times lots of it! During a snow storm, we are confined to our homes to wait it out. To keep yourself occupied some people like to do things like rearranging their furniture, clean out closets or do the laundry. That all sound like work to me! I just want to relax and do things that don't require too much energy. Here are a few fun things you can do while waiting out a snow storm or on a day off from work.

Netflix and Chill

If you don't have Netflix, I suggest you make the investment. Netflix is doing the damn thing with their original programming and large selection of movies. Here are a few shows I suggest you watch.
Chewing Gum, Black Mirror, Doctor Foster, Stranger Things, Peaky Blinders, The Fall, Happy Valley, The Get Down

Catch up on reading

I can't say I am a huge reader, but I do love coffee table magazines like The Gentle Woman or Kinfolk. My goal this year is to read at least one book every 2-3 months. I gravitate to mostly fiction, suspense/mystery books that keep you on the edge of your seat. I've recently taken an interest in books about interior design, ceramics and space structure.  If you have any suggestions on books to read please send them my way!

Primp & Pamper

There is nothing like a fresh coat of nail polish! This gives you something to smile about while you're twiddling your fingers waiting for the time to pass by. I constantly change my nail color because 1.My manicure only lasts 3 days max because my fingers are constantly in shea butter, 2. I can no longer use gel nail polish because it RUINS my nails (No matter how much I admire the shiny finish)!

Listen to music

If you live in Brooklyn, I am sure you have a record player somewhere in your apartment. Dust that bad boy off and  play some tunes! You can also jam out to your favorite Spotify or Soundcloud playlist if you don't collect vinyl. I'm always looking for new sounds and dope artists to vibe out to. Who are you listening to now?

Play video games

My husband is a gamer with an impressive collection of video games. I not only enjoy watching him play games like Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider and Fallout 4, I also enjoy playing as well. The most recent game that I was totally into was INSIDE. INSIDE is a puzzle-platformer adventure video game developed and published by Playdead. You play a young boy dropped in this super spooky, dark world, surrounded by deformed lab experiments, zombies, and mad scientists whom all want to kill you. It's a game changer. Get it... cus we talking about games. :)

What do you like to do when you're stuck in the house? Send me new music suggestions, video games, books, nail polish colors that you think I should check out!

NYC Women's March 2017

Cynthia Simpson

Over 400 hundred thousand people came out to the Women's March in New York on Saturday. From young children with their parents to groups of outspoken senior citizens, we were a force that demanded to be heard. For my friend Michelle and I, this was the first protest in New York we had ever participated in. The energy was electric with a powerful feeling of being united as one. I am proud to be a woman, with a voice, and the ability to evoke change.
